This March, you have a rare opportunity to step inside this world. The iconic Dandenong Ranges Open Studios returns for its 23rd year, offering a unique glimpse into the artist's inner sanctum. Over two weekends, you can meet the makers hidden in the hills, witness their processes, and purchase one-of-a-kind works directly from the source.

This year’s program is our largest yet, featuring 47 studios and over 60 talented artists. Prepare to immerse yourself in a world of creativity and discover the stories behind the art

Meet the Makers: A Festival of Talent

Dandenong Ranges Open Studios is your all-access pass to the region's vibrant arts scene. On March 21-22 and 28-29, 2026, artists will open their doors, inviting you to explore their creative spaces. The event showcases an incredible diversity of talent, from emerging artists to established collectives. You will find everything from ceramics and sculpture to painting and mixed media.

Welcoming New and Familiar Faces

This year, we are thrilled to welcome a fresh wave of talent alongside beloved returning artists. Among the new participants are:

• Rémy Tramoy: A French furniture maker whose work is inspired by the elegant lines of mid-century modern and American Windsor traditions.
• Kelly Kondis: A painter who creates evocative landscapes, drawing inspiration from the local rainforest and her travels.
• April Vautier: An emerging origami artist who is pushing the boundaries of paper folding into the world of pleated clothing. At just 15, April is our youngest participant, having passionately explored her craft since she was five years old.

We also take a moment to honour the legacy of our long-standing artists. This year marks Cathryn Sofarnos's final participation in the Open Studios, a cherished member of the family for many years. As Cathryn prepares to move outside the region, we thank her for her immense contribution and wish her all the best in her future endeavours.

Continuum: A Preview of the Creativity to Come

Begin your artistic journey at the Continuum group exhibition, opening at Burrinja on March 12. This major exhibition brings together works from all participating artists, offering a compelling preview of the talent you will encounter in the studios. Continuum explores art as a flow of connection, process, and constant becoming. The collection invites you to see each piece not as an isolated object, but as part of an ongoing dialogue between materials, ideas, places, and people. It’s the perfect way to whet your appetite and plan your studio visits.

Workshops, Demonstrations, and Events

Open Studios is more than just viewing art; it's about experiencing it. Our timetable is bursting with over 40 inspiring opportunities to see creativity in action. Artists love to share their techniques and the stories behind their work. Join a workshop to learn a new skill, watch a live demonstration, and connect with the creators on a deeper level. From pottery throwing to landscape painting, there are countless ways to get involved.

Celebrating Excellence: The Open Studios Awards

We believe in recognising the exceptional talent within our community. Two prestigious awards are a highlight of the Open Studios program, celebrating the dedication and unique perspectives of our artists.

• Swinburne Visual Arts Innovation Award: Presented in partnership with Swinburne University of Technology, this award honours one artist from the group exhibition who is pushing the boundaries of their medium or concept.
• People’s Choice Award: This award is decided by you. Visitors are invited to vote for their favorite artwork in the 'Continuum' exhibition, giving you a chance to champion the art that speaks to you most.
