Cathryn Sofarnos is a Melbourne-based abstract artist whose practice explores the emotional and metaphysical landscape of memory, place, and perception.
Her work is a deep dive into abstraction—where colour, line, and form become language, creating vibrant, layered compositions that evoke movement, energy, and introspection. Her work also extends into textiles, blending visual art and wearable forms to create immersive, theme-driven exhibitions.
In her studio practice, Cathryn embraces a highly experimental approach, working intuitively with a variety of materials including oil paint, oil sticks, acrylic, spray paint, crayon, and collage. Much of her process begins with smaller studies on paper, allowing for open-ended exploration of colour, texture, and composition. This time of experimentation is essential, forming the foundation for her larger, more resolved works.

“I paint to explore the unseen—emotion, memory, and the layered nature of existence. Through abstraction, I find a language that goes beyond words, allowing space for curiosity, introspection, and connection. Painting grounds me in the present moment while opening doorways to the past and imagined futures. It is both a personal meditation and a shared invitation to feel, question, and remember."
