Step into a kaleidoscope of creativity at Summer Salon, Burrinja’s annual group exhibition celebrating the incredible talent of our local artists.

Featuring works from over 30 Burrinja Studio Artists and Artist Network members, Summer Salon brings together a dazzling array of styles, mediums, and perspectives, from bold abstracts and delicate drawings to sculptural forms and experimental pieces. Presented in a dynamic Salon Hang style, the Lyre Gallery will burst with colour, energy, and inspiration.

Every artwork in the exhibition is $500 and under, making this the perfect opportunity to start or grow your art collection, or to find a one-of-a-kind gift for someone special.

Join us on Saturday 28 November at 2pm for the Opening Celebration, or check it out during your visit to Burrinja Art Fair on 5 December - a day filled with live music, artisan stalls, food, and creative activities throughout the centre and gardens.

What is a Salon Hang?

A salon hang is a style of displaying a large collection of art, photos, or objects that fills a wall often from floor to ceiling, characterized by a dense, clustered arrangement of various sizes, frames, and styles. 

The concept originated in 17th-century France with the annual exhibitions at the Royal Academy in Paris, where the sheer volume of submitted work forced artists to hang pieces in a tightly packed, layered format. 

Key characteristics of a salon hang:

• Clustered arrangement: A large number of items are grouped closely together, creating a dense and visually rich display.
• Floor-to-ceiling coverage: This version of a salon display extends from the floor to as high as is practical on the wall.
• Mix and match: Works of different sizes, shapes, and styles are hung together to create a dynamic, cohesive collection.
• Variety: A mix of art, prints, photographs, and even small objects can be included.
• Cohesion: Despite the variety, the arrangement is tied together through a theme, colour palette, or by an intentional ‘organised chaos’
