Natalie Wijeyeratne is an abstract artist who paints and makes marks intuitively. Through experimentation and consistent studio time, themes and patterns emerge, pushing her in a new direction, or pulling her into comfortable familiarity.
Natalie explores events of personal significance through her creative practice. She also enjoys upcycling ceramics into beautiful, functional artworks.
Natalie’s creative process includes abstract painting (acrylic), drawing (pastels), colouring (pencils), mark making, overlays with acrylic ink, experiments with texture mediums, and upcycling ceramics.
Her studio is alive with colour, texture and works of different sizes. Natalie paints on paper without planning. This allows her to express herself spontaneously. Her studio space is home to previous projects as well as works in progress.

"I create to express myself freely and to reconnect to a sense of wonder. Painting intuitively allows me to surrender and abandon expectations. In a heavily curated and over planned world I find comfort in the playfulness that is available to me through art making, as it allows me to process and expressing positive experiences as well as challenging or confusing ones."
