Expressions of Interest - Now Taking Applications

Burrinja is seeking Non-Executive Directors to join our volunteer Board and lead us into the future, fulfilling our mission of Building Community Through Arts in the beautiful Dandenong Ranges.

As a Board Member, you’ll guide Burrinja’s governance and strategic direction, helping to shape a cultural hub that connects people through shared creative experiences and supports artists to thrive.

We’re particularly interested in hearing from individuals with strong skills in Philanthropy & Fundraising, Financial Management and Risk Management. Experience or interest in visual arts, the performing arts and community development is also highly regarded.

We are particularly interested in hearing from:

  • Practising artists and arts workers with current arts industry experience
  • People with strong skills in financial management and/or risk management
  • People with experience in philanthropy and fundraising
  • First Nations people
  • Younger professionals who can contribute fresh perspectives

Board positions are voluntary (unpaid). Induction and ongoing support will be provided.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategic Leadership: Contribute to the strategic direction and governance of Burrinja.
  • Financial Oversight: Provide oversight of Burrinja’s financial performance and risk management.
  • Philanthropy and Fundraising: Provide expertise in building and nurturing relationships with donors, sponsors and other key stakeholders to support Burrinja’s strategic priorities and financial sustainability.

Core Commitment

  • Attend six Board meetings annually plus planning days as required and engage with Burrinja activities by attending events.
  • Board appointments are for three years, with the ability to renominate.
  • Burrinja is a cultural hub for the Dandenong Ranges and we value Board members who have a connection to the region, whether through living or working here, or meaningful cultural or recreational engagement with the region.
  • Board meetings are held in a hybrid format (in person or via Microsoft Teams), although we encourage in-person participation wherever possible.

Different Perspectives

We are committed to equity, access and inclusion at every level of our organisation.

We strongly encourage applications from First Nations people, people with disability, people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, and people who identify as LGBTQIA+, and those who may not have previous board experience but bring valuable lived or professional perspectives.

Expression of Interest Requirements

Please submit a letter of interest (maximum two pages) outlining:

  • Your relevant experience and skills
  • Your interest in Burrinja and its work
  • Your capacity to contribute to the Board

Please email your letter of interest to Melanie Burge, CEO & Creative Director. If you’d like to discuss the opportunity before sending your letter, please email Melanie to arrange a time for a chat.
