Emotion and nature in rhythm and colour

Abstract Artist

Developing into a distinctive form of abstract expressionism, Mary-Lin’s contemporary work started with a line and has evolved into a dynamic exploration of shape, colour and mark-making.

It has become a deeply internalised translation of observing the natural and rhythmic processes of decay and growth. Mary-Lin creates layered and detailed paintings in acrylic and gouache.

Mary-Lin Litchfield is an emerging artist now enjoying creating at Studio 13 in the Aerie Collective Space art Burrinja. Mary-Lin is working on a series of paintings in the abstract. Originally developed from the premise of a bird’s eye view of the land from above– the new series includes the concept of the expanses of the sky as viewed from below.

“Each artwork begins with expressive marks and forms and tells my emotive story of joy, struggle and resolution through colour, emotive gesture and abstracted rhythms. I paint in acrylic and gouache with acrylic mediums. My work incorporates a deeply internalized translation of the observation of the natural and rhythmic processes of decay and growth.”
