BILL HENSON:
early works from the MGA Collection
30 July - 26 September 2010

Bill Henson: early works from the MGA Collection provides audiences with the opportunity to view some of the most powerful and beautiful photographs made by one of Australia's best-known contemporary photographers. This exhibition features twenty-nine exquisitely printed examples from many of Henson's major series from the 1970s through to the early 1990s, all drawn from Monash Gallery of Art's (MGA) collection.

Passionate discussions in Australia, especially the media, about Henson's work and what it says about the nature of art are ongoing. This exhibition offers a rare opportunity for local audiences to experience the diversity and complex materiality of Henson's work first hand, unhindered by the distortions of reproduction.

Going Down Town is a beautiful exhibition of original hand crafted prints presenting recognizable everyday moments with grace and style. An exhibition like this shows us what we already know, in a manner that encourages us to notice what we don't .' - Tilla Buden, Burrinja Visual Art Manager

Jenny Mai Hall's art practice explores the human condition voyeuristically within the context of 'the everyday'. The prints in this exhibition are images of people  negating the busy streets of Melbourne . Although the city streets are busy there is a sense of detachment and isolation. The prints are all original prints of a limited edition. This means all the prints have been printed in a traditional manner using printers ink and a manual printing press.

Discover what a hyperbolic plane is and how to crochet one. Learn how to use colour, shape, texture and size to full effect. Swap patterns and ideas. BYO crochet hook and yarn.

Regular workshops held 4th Saturday of each month at Burrinja from 1pm to 4pm.

RANGES BURRINJA FOLK CLUB presents...

The Perri Winkles
Friday 30th July 2010

The Perri Winkles are a 4-piece band playing a wide range of music from jazz and Latin to New Orleans soul. The band was founded by drummer John Perri (Marcia Hines, The Drifters(USA) and members of the Channel 9 Orchestra) with Mike Mathews on electric bass (John Rowles, Lisa Edwards and Joe Chindamo), David Jones on keyboards/vocals and Bruce McGill on sax/clarinet & vocals. This band of consummate musicians will guarantee a great night of entertainment with a range of good songs and solo performances from all the members.

The Ranges Burrinja Folk Club is held on the last Friday of every month featuring great acoustic music in the relaxed and friendly, intimate atmosphere of the Burrinja Café in Upwey. A Community run creative artgroup for children aged between 2 and 4 years.
Activities are designed to engage and bond children with their parents or care givers in a safe and fun environment. BYO morning tea shared after the morning's session.

COST: $55 per child per school term. Second child $25.00 per school term.

The Hillside Creepers Alt Craft Group

The Creepers are pleased to find a new home at the Burrinja Café on the first Sunday of the month from 10:30am.  Come along to get involved in craft with an alternative sensibility and zine making.  Stay for a cuppa, lunch and a chat while making stuff and sharing skills.
